About

Hi, I live in Himeji.

I walk past Himeji Castle almost every day. The streets around it — the station, the shopping arcades, the little side streets most visitors never find — are part of my daily life.

Why I started this site

Most English information about Himeji is beautiful but vague. It tells you the castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (it is) and that it’s stunning in cherry blossom season (also true). But it rarely answers the questions you actually have the night before your trip:

  • How long is the walk from the station, really?
  • What time do the crowds arrive, and how do I avoid them?
  • Which station exit should I take?
  • How steep are the stairs inside the castle? Can I manage them with a bad knee?
  • Where can I leave my suitcase for the day?

Those are the questions this site exists to answer — with first-hand information from someone who is actually here, not rewritten from a brochure.

Day trip or overnight?

Himeji works well as a day trip from Osaka or Kyoto, and most visitors treat it that way. But it’s also a place that rewards staying the night: the castle at dusk with no crowds, quiet izakaya where locals eat, and an easy base for exploring the region. I’ll help you decide which is right for your trip — and make either one go smoothly.

What you’ll find here

Practical guides to Himeji Castle (tickets, timing, photo spots), realistic day-trip itineraries, honest food recommendations, and the small logistical details — luggage, trains, connectivity — that make or break a travel day. Everything is based on my own experience living here.
